RUC for 8th Grade Students

Goal:
To provide medically accurate education that addresses the whole person including the intellectual, social, emotional, and physical dimensions and develops positive character and relationship skills.

Eighth Grade Lesson One
  1. The student will discuss their goals for the future.
  2. The student will examine the effects of multiple partners on future relationships.
  3. The student will view the Check It Out video/DVD and define the difference between bacterial and viral STDs.
  4. The student will experience the feasibility of delayed gratification.
 
Eighth Grade Lesson Two
  1. The student will define terms of abstinence education.
  2. The student will name seven STDs, chart their primary characteristics and determine effectiveness of abstinence.
  3. The student will examine transmission patterns of STDs with multiple partners.

Eighth Grade Lesson Three
  1. The student will examine various parenting choices for pregnant teens.
  2. The student will analyze the roles and importance of fathers in the lives of children.

Eighth Grade Lesson Four
  1. The student will explore the role of the father in setting guidelines for dating.
  2. The student will place in sequence the building blocks of healthy marriage.
  3. The student will be familiar with the twelve steps of "pair bonding."
 
Eighth Grade Lesson Five
  1. The student will create positive slogans for abstinence.
  2. The student will compare and contrast response to adversity between persons of integrity and persons lacking integrity.
  3. The student will examine the cultural responses to HIV/AIDS.
  4. The student will commit to healthy behavior and abstain from risky behavior.
